History of the Tennessee Titans
The Houston Oilers
The Houston Oilers were the orginal Titans and were founded in 1959. In their time as the Houston Oilers, they didn't do much.
They won the AFL Championship in 1960 and 1961. During their time as the Oilers, they've had several superstar players, many of which played on both teams. These players include running back Eddie George, guard Bruce Matthews, quarterback Warren Moon, and tight end Frank Wycheck. These players are all time greats for the team and Hall of Famers.
No major events happend until 1997, when the Oilers moved to Memphis (later Nashville) and were called the Tennessee Oilers. Two years later, they renamed themselves the Tennessee Titans. (Fun fact, they didn't play at their own stadium, rather the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium due to the stadium still being under construction).
The Tennessee Titans
In their first year as the Titans, they went 13-3 and made the SuperBowl! They lost in a close game (16-23) against the St. Loius Rams where they were 1 yard short of scoring the game tying touchdown.
