Winona Ryder was born on October 29, 1971 to Cynthia Palmer and Michael
D. Horowitz. She was born in Olmsted County, Minnesota, but was named after
a nearby town, Winona. She grew up in a ranch commune in Northern California,
which had no electricity. Her family is a mix of Russian Jewish, and Romanian
Jewish.
She's been in the film industry since the young age
of 13. Ryder had a rough school life in junior year, where a group of boys
harrassed her, injuring her so badly she had to have stitches. For the rest
of her school years, she was homeschooled for her own safety. She has a younger
brother Uri Horowitz, an older half-brother Jubal Palmer and an older half-
sister Sunyata Palmer. Winona Ryder's real hair color is blonde, but for most
films, she keeps it dyed dark, Edward Scissorhands being the exception.
