Edward Hopper

Edward Hopper is a 20th century American realist painter and printmaker.

Hopper is known for his oil paintings depicting American urban and rural scenes. Hopper derived his subject matter from two primary sources: one, the common features of American life: gas stations, motels, restaurants, theaters, railroads, and street scenes and its inhabitants; and two, seascapes and rural landscapes.

Biography

Edward Hopper was born in 1882 in Nyack, New York. He attended the New York School of Art and Design and studied there for six years.
