Joseph McCarthy
Joseph McCarthy (whose full name was Joseph Raymond McCarthy), was born November 14, 1908 in Little Chute, Wisconsin. He was successful throughout his life. In 1935, He graduated from Marquette University Law School. In 1939, He was elected circut judge in Appleton, Wisconsin. Around 1942, he was inlisted in the Marine Corps. He served both in the United States and the Pacific theatre of operations. In 1944, he tried to run for senate unsucessfully. AT that time, he was also serving in the Marines. Although he lost that election, in 1946 , he won the senate election and was succesfully elected. In 1950, he gave a speech for Lincoln day. This speech made his popularity skyrocket. Although he was very popular, this speech caused tentions between the United States and the Communist Soviet Union.In his speech, he quoted something that would greatly impact the country. He told the country that the communist athiests and the capitalist christians were about to go into an apoctylipic battle. He said that if they did not eliminate all communists, the country would become like theirs. This caused the Red Scare of the 1950's. In 1952, he was re-elected to the Senate. In 1953, he started investigating communism in the Army. In 1954, the hearings from the Ary cases were televised. That year, the senate also voted to condemn him. Finally, on May 2, 1957, Joseph McCarthy died of Hepatitis.
