Skateboarding was born sometime in the late '40s or early '50s, when surfers wanted something to do when they couldn't surf.

Early Skateboards

The first skateboards started with wooden boxes, or boards, with roller skate wheels attached to the bottom. The boxes later turned into planks, similar to the skateboard decks of today.
