Machu Picchu has around 200 buildings that continuously baffle architects. Each building is made out of individually carved pieces of gray granite stone. The architecture is most known for the polygonal shaped stones. The Incans of Machu Picchu also followed the religious pattern of pyramid construction.
The Temple of the Sun was a very important part of Incan culture. Also known as Templo Del Sol, the Inca used this as a sacred temple to perform ceremonies and give offerings to the sun. Only priests who were considered sacred were allowed to enter the temple.
Similar to the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Moon was an important ceremonial site for the Incans. The Temple is made up of stone and is a shallow cave with an open-face. The center of the cave has a throne carved out of rock.
