Jim was known for having a unique voice, leading him to quickly gain fans. Jim wasn't actually the one who created the songs, mostly focusing on the poetic lyrics. The band worked well together for the most part. Like all bands, there are bound to be issues, and there were of course big ones in The Doors. The band never broke up, though, and continued to make music until 1971.
