Jim Morrison ultimately passed away due to congestive heart failure July 3, 1971. His birthday was only a few days later. At the time, Jim was living in Paris and died at only 27 years old. His grave was placed in France and is constantly vandalized by people who visit. Many do this out of "respect" but it really isn't taken as that.
The band was initially taking a break during Jim's time in Paris. Much tension worked its way into the group which is why Pamela and Jim moved away. The group didn't have intentions of breaking up but they never would have expeted the fate of their lead singer. Pamela was the one who found Jim deceased in their home in 1971. Pam, along with the band and nation were devestated to learn of his passing.
The End
While "The End" was from one of their first albums, the band still is known for this great work. Jim wrote this song about his ex-girlfriend and was later revised into a longer version.
His tomb is constanly visited by Americans and people in Paris. The grave is constantly tampered with which has caused officials to put up barriers to keep trespassors out. These structures, in the long run, don't actually stop people from breaking in. Somehow, visitors manage to work their way in, creating a never-ending cycle of vandalism.
The Doors continued to play for 2 more years after Jim's death. They worked as a trio, but never made it far without their lead vocalist. By 1972, one year after Jim passed, The Doors had sold over 4 million total albums, making that their prime year. When the trio officially retired in 1973, they never went back to their music out of respect for their lead singer.
